| My current hourly writing fee works out to about $150. an hour. (That's not what I ask for, that's what clients offer me.) Rates are negotiable. Depending on your budget and my interest in working on your project. Every new client asks “Let’s see some samples of your work!”, and I comply - reluctantly. Why reluctantly? There are two reasons: 1) Everything I’ve written is created specifically for that client - and may, or may not, have any relationship to what I will write for you. Furthermore, a print ad or a script may include a word or phrase that I didn’t even write (perhaps it was added at the insistence of the client or the creative director). 2) Some clients/agencies/celebrities may not want you to know that I wrote the script/ad/grocery list for them. My writer/client relationship exists in a partnership of absolute confidentiality (if so desired, of course) and you don’t have enough money for me to ever break that trust. At this point you’re probably saying “Good grief! This idiot wants to write for us but he doesn’t want to show me what he’s written?” Not quite. Here’s the deal: I’ll show you enough “samples” (radio, TV, print, direct mail, comedy material, press releases, corporate video script, etc.) to prove to you that I am, as claimed, a writer. Let me tackle an actual writing assignment for you. If what I create for your first assignment is not what you want, need, or like - you don’t pay me a dime! What have you got to lose? If, however, what I write does turn out to be what you need - you pay me whatever your writing budget was for that project (I’ll trust you to be fair). I’m punctual, dependable, not greedy and I’m not an egomaniac (comedy writing has surgically excised that part of my brain). For every set fee I do accept, I make as many revisions (without additional fees or charges) as are required until the project is completed to everyone’s satisfaction (and I expect to be paid fairly soon after the project is completed). Then, when the next writing project comes along that you believe might be appropriate for my talents, we’ll negotiate the fee. Oh, yes - this is how I negotiate: 1. You call me to tell me what you want written. 2. You tell me what your writing budget is. 3. I accept. End of negotiation. Simple? Let’s try it. Please contact me. (You can't lose!) |
